Análise de crescimento de erva-de-touro em competição com soja cultivada sob deficiência hídrica Planta Daninha
Vivian,R.; Dourado-Neto,D.; Silva,A.A.; Victoria Filho,R.; Yeda,M.P.; Ruiz‑Corrêa,S..

Deficit irrigation at different growth stages of the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L., cv. Imbabello) Scientia Agricola
Calvache,M.; Reichardt,K; Bacchi,O.O.S.; Dourado-Neto,D..
To identify specific growth stages of the common bean crop at which the plant is less sensitive to water stress, in which irrigation could be omitted without significant decrease hi final yield, two field experiments were conducted at "La Tola" University Experimental Station, Tumbaco, Pichincha, Ecuador, on a sandy loam soil (Typic Haplustoll). The climate is tempered and dry (mean air temperature 16°C and mean relative humidity 74%, during the cropping season) 123 and 109 mm of rainfall were recorded during the experimental cropping periods (July to October), of 1992 and 1994, respectively. The treatments consisted of combinations of 7 irrigation regimes including normal watering; full stress; (traditional management practice); single stress at...

Influence of photoperiod and air temperature on the growth, flowering and maturation of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) Scientia Agricola
Câmara,G.M.S.; Sediyama,T.; Dourado-Neto,D.; Bernardes,M.S..
With the purpose to evaluate the effect of short (12 hours) and long (13 and 14 hours) photoperiods and air temperature regimes (winter and summer growing seasons) on soybean behaviour, greenhouse experiments were installed at the Federal University of Viçosa, Brasil, from June 1984 to December 1985. In each experiment, under a completely randomized design with 12 treatments (soybean cultivars) and eight replicates: duration of vegetative period from emergency to stage R1 or flowering (DVP, in days); plant height (PH, m); number of nodes per plant at stage R1 (NNP); and duration of soybean cycle from emergency to stage R7 or physiological maturity point (DC, days), were evaluated. The results permit to conclude that: the vegetative period from emergency to...

Interactions between soybean and weeds in a replacement series system, considering the effects of water stress Planta Daninha
Vivian,R.; Dourado-Neto,D.; Filho,R.V.; Silva,A.A.; Franco,R.B.; Correa,S.T.R..
Due to the increase of water deficiency in many farm regions and its meaning on weed interference, competitive interactions between soybean and three weeds were evaluated under water stress (20 to 40 days after transplanting) and no stress conditions. Three independent experiments were carried out in a growth chamber, being each one composed by the weeds Alternanthera tenella, Tridax procumbens or Digitaria ciliaris, along with the crop, in which soil water condition and plant composition effects were evaluated while in competition. A replacement series system was used, including both monoculture of each species and a mixture with a ratio of 50% between weed and soybean. A completely randomized design was used in factorial arrangement, with treatments...

Linear programming model to optimize the water resource use in irrigation projects: an application to the Senator Nilo Coelho Project Scientia Agricola
Frizzone,J.A.; Coelho,R.D.; Dourado-Neto,D.; Soliani,R..
The main objective of this paper was to develop a separable linear programming model, considering a set of technical factors which may influence the profit of an irrigation project The model presents an objective function that maximizes the net income and specifies the range of water availability. It is assumed that yield functions in response to water application are available for differents crops and describe very well the water-yield relationships. The linear programming model was developed genetically, so that, the rational use of the available water resource could be included in an irrigation project Specific equations were developed and applied in the irrigation project "Senator Nilo Coelho" (SNCP), located in Petrolina - Brazil Based on the...

Neutron probe calibration correction by temporal stability parameters of soil water content probability distribution Scientia Agricola
Reichardt,K.; Portezan,O.; Bacchi,O.O.S.; Oliveira,J.C.M; Dourado-Neto,D.; Pilotto,J.E.; Calvache,M..
A neutron probe calibration correction is proposed in order to reduce soil water content variability, assumed to be a consequence of improper calibrations relations. The time stability of spatially measured soil water content data is used to correct the intercepts of linear calibration relations. This procedure reduced the coefficients of variation of soil water content data from 4 to less than 2% in a Rhodic Kanhapludalf.

Principles of crop modeling and simulation: I. uses of mathematical models in agricultural science Scientia Agricola
Dourado-Neto,D.; Teruel,D. A.; Reichardt,K.; Nielsen,D.R.; Frizzone,J. A.; Bacchi,O.O.S..
Modeling techniques applied to agriculture can be useful to define research priorities and understanding the basic interactions of the soil-plant-atmosphere system. Using a model to estimate the importance and the effect of certain parameters, a researcher can notice which factors can be most useful. The modeler should define his objectives before beginning his work and construct a model that fulfills the proposed objectives.

Principles of crop modelling and simulation: II. the implications of the objective in model development Scientia Agricola
Dourado-Neto,D.; Teruel,D.A.; Reichardt,K.; Nielsen,D.R.; Frizzone,J. A.; Bacchi,O.O.S..
With the purpose of presenting to scientists the implications of the objective in model development and a basic vision of modeling, with its potential applications and limitations in agriculture, an integration of crop modeling professionals with agricultural professionals is suggested. Models mean modernization of the information, of the measurement process and of an efficient way to learn more about complex systems. They are one of the best mechanisms of transforming information in useful knowledge and of transferring this knowledge to others. One of the problems that impede a larger progress in modeling is the lack of communication between modelers and a frequent appearance of modelers without a global vision of reality.

Timm,L. C.; Reichardt,K.; Oliveira,J. C. M.; Cassaro,F. A. M.; Tominaga,T. T.; Bacchi,O. O. S.; Dourado-Neto,D.; Nielsen,D. R..
The state-space approach is used to evaluate the relation between soil physical and chemical properties in an area cultivated with sugarcane. The experiment was carried out on a Rhodic Kandiudalf in Piracicaba, State of São Paulo, Brazil. Sugarcane was planted on an area of 0.21 ha i.e., in 15 rows 100 m long, spaced 1.4 m. Soil water content, soil organic matter, clay content and aggregate stability were sampled along a transect of 84 points, meter by meter. The state-space approach is used to evaluate how the soil water content is affected by itself and by soil organic matter, clay content, and aggregate stability of neighboring locations, in different combinations, aiming to contribute to a better understanding of the relation among these variables in...
